The Department of Physics has implemented the GSI (Graduate Student Instructor) system, in which graduate students take an active role in undergraduate education.
Under this program, graduate students work with faculty members to design, plan, and conduct undergraduate courses. This provides undergraduates with a more approachable environment for asking questions and seeking advice, while also helping graduate students improve their teaching skills and deepen their understanding of fundamental physics.
Beginning in 2025, the department has established the Masako Sato GSI Fellowship (Super GSI Physics Education Leadership Fellowship) to foster individuals who can demonstrate leadership in education and research.
Outstanding master’s and doctoral students serving as GSIs are appointed as Super GSIs and receive educational research fellowships.
In addition, those who have achieved remarkable educational results and shown exceptional leadership in GSI activities are honored with the title of Excellent GSI and receive special recognition.
